Eat right after training? Spoiler: your body doesn't own a stopwatch.

The last song of your gym playlist has just faded out. You're sweaty, motivated and very proud of yourself.

And then this thought arrives: "If I don't get protein in within 30 minutes, it was all for nothing."

Ah yes. The famous anabolic window. It sounds like a door that slams shut at exactly 6:30 p.m.

We have bad news for everyone who already sprinted to the locker room with a shaker in hand. And good news for everyone else.

The window is bigger than you were told

Eating right after training is perfectly fine. But the body doesn't run on a stopwatch.

What matters more than the first half hour is rather unspectacular: What does your whole day look like?

Did you eat enough protein across the day? Enough energy? Do your meals come regularly? Then dinner after training isn't a missed chance. It's just dinner.

If you're hungry right after training, eat. If you only get properly hungry an hour later, eat an hour later.

Your muscle has no opinion on this.

What works well beforehand

A bit of everyday logic helps here.

One to three hours before, a meal with carbohydrates, not too much fat and not too much fiber usually works. Oats with banana. Rice with vegetables and a bit of chicken. Bread with quark.

Shortly before, often only something light works. A banana. Toast with honey. A cup of yogurt.

Not recommended: pizza with extra cheese ten minutes before leg day. Your stomach will have a very clear opinion.

And drink enough throughout the day. If you start training already thirsty, you started too late.

What helps afterwards

After training, protein and carbohydrates are welcome.

Protein supports recovery and muscle building. As a rough orientation, 20 to 40 grams per meal is often mentioned. What makes sense for you depends on body weight, goal and training.

Carbohydrates refill the stores. That's most interesting after long or intense sessions, and if you train again the same day.

These don't have to be fitness recipes with fantasy names. Skyr with fruit and oats. Scrambled eggs on wholegrain bread. Lentils with rice. Chicken with potatoes and vegetables.

Normal food. Normal plate. Good training.

The shake is fine. It's just not a mandatory appointment.

Protein powder is a handy tool when you're on the move or struggle to reach your amount otherwise.

But it is not a magic upgrade for your training results.

If you cover your needs with normal food, you don't need a shaker in your gym bag. If you like drinking one, of course you may.

Freedom wherever you look. 🪩

The more interesting question: how much have you had today?

Instead of judging every meal after training, a look at the whole day helps.

How much protein has come together so far? How much energy? Is something missing?

That's where Foodisco comes in. You see protein, carbohydrates and fat of the day at a glance. And when protein is still missing in the evening, the coach points it out and suggests a dish that closes the gap.

Something like: "You're 40 g of protein short, and dinner can cover it."

No nutrition tribunal. Just a hint when it helps.

A perfectly ordinary training day

Just as an example, not as a rule:

Breakfast: oats with yogurt and fruit.

Lunch: rice, vegetables, chicken or lentils.

Before training: a banana.

Afterwards: skyr with berries and nuts. Or scrambled egg on bread.

Evening: potatoes with quark and salad.

None of it looks like high-performance research. It's simply quite a lot of good food, spread across the day.

What to take home from the party

You don't have to drink a shake at 6:29 p.m. for your muscle to decide it may grow.

What matters is what happens over days and weeks: enough protein, enough energy, training you keep up and meals that fit your life.
